New Wholesaler Initiative Launches

Electricfix, a new specialist wholesaler exclusively for electrical contractors has been launched by trade retailer, Screwfix. The new wholesaler aims to provide industry-leading availability on a comprehensive range of electrical goods, at fixed, low prices, seven days a week.

The Electricfix catalogue offers electricians access to all the products and trade brands they need. Supplies are available for order up to 13 hours a day from a dedicated call centre with free next day delivery to site by 10.30am.

Electricfix prices are fixed for the duration of the catalogue and are highly competitive compared to other wholesalers. This means electricians know they are always getting great low prices irrespective of who they know, or where or when they buy.

The Electricfix catalogue has been designed to be easy to use, acting as both price guide and reference tool, helping electricians locate products quickly and easily.

“Electricfix is built around providing the best possible service for electrical contractors. We do this through the range of products we carry, their availability, the efficiency of our delivery and our pricing. We’re not only giving electrical contractors the opportunity to save money, but are also cutting down on wasted time haggling over costs and dealing with invoicing headaches, as well saving them the hassle of running between wholesalers to get everything they need to complete the job. We believe Electricfix will help contractors run a more efficient, profitable business – an important consideration at all times, but particularly in the current market,” said John Mewett, marketing director for Electricfix.

To further support professional electrical contractors, Electricfix has teamed-up with NICEIC, the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and the Electrical Safety Council (ESC) to help stamp out unqualified tradesmen completing installations and to raise standards – the first wholesaler to do so.

To purchase through Electricfix, contractors need to demonstrate their professional credentials. This can be done by proving their registration with, or membership of, an electrical trade body, such as the NICEIC or ECA or their professional qualifications, such as Part P, or a recognised competent persons scheme such as the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme.

Details will be verified by the dedicated Electricfix call centre team, ensuring that Electricfix products, prices and services are only supplied to professional contractors. Those that cannot provide proof of competency will be encouraged towards the NICEIC and ECA and not be permitted to purchase.

“The reputation of professional contractors committed to high standards continues to be tarnished by the sub-standard work completed by unqualified tradesmen. Through Electricfix, we are supporting and rewarding professional electricians by creating a service dedicated to them and restricting access to our low prices to contractors committed to high standards. We’re confident this will make an important contribution to electrical safety in UK homes,” added John Mewett.

In addition to its tough stance on professional competency, Electricfix will also be working with the industry bodies to help promote the importance of high quality installation and safety standards. The Electricfix catalogue contains information on current regulations and advice from the trade bodies. Electricfix will be developing joint initiatives to support industry apprentices and encourage membership of the professional bodies. It will also be communicating the importance of electrical safety and qualifications to the broader trades through the Screwfix network.

Commenting on the new initiative Emma McCarthy, chief operating officer of NICEIC Group said: “NICEIC supports this initiative which encourages, promotes and rewards professionalism within our industry. Our partnership with Electricfix brings significant benefits to our 25,000 approved contractors and domestic installers and sends out a positive message to the entire electrical contracting industry.”

Phil Buckle, the Electrical Safety Council's director of charitable affairs, said: "The Electrical Safety Council is committed to working with all stakeholders in the electrical world from manufacturers to wholesalers to consumers, in order to increase safety and enhance professional standards. As such, we welcome Electricfix's approach to the industry and their commitment to only supply to competent professionals. The Electrical Safety Council is an independent charity committed to reducing deaths and injuries through electrical accidents at home and at work and will continue to work with Electricfix to seek mutual opportunities to raise the profile of both safety and the use of competent professionals.”

The Electricfix catalogue has over 350 pages dedicated to circuit protection and industrial control and cabling, to wiring accessories; tools; lighting and much more. Crabtree, Legrand, Megger, MK, Thorn, and Wylex are just some of the many leading brands featured.

Electricfix launches on 16th March 2009. The order line – 0808 172 7000 – is open seven days a week from 7am to 8pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 8pm on Saturdays and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
