The Smart lighting column of the future

A global leader in LED lighting solutions has launched Shuffle, a smart, interactive lighting column designed to encourage social connectivity in towns and cities. The Shuffle interactive lighting column, from Urbis Schréder, goes far beyond professional lighting, integrating features such as Loudspeakers, CCTV, Night vision, Wireless internet, Electric vehicle charging and Visual guidance.

Taking advantage of a unique energy supply grid to deploy multiple services, the modules, easy fixations and plug-in connections mean that Shuffle lighting column is an extremely flexible tool offering quick and inexpensive on-site installation, very low maintenance, and a low total cost of ownership. Shuffle declutters public spaces, providing multiple requirements in a single installation, removing the need for other street furniture and lowering carbon footprint.

The Shuffle interactive lighting column acts as a Smart City enabler: in addition to multi-functionality, the Shuffle offers the Schréder Owlet network control solution, a remote control system for monitoring, metering and managing a lighting network. The three Owlet controls available allow the units to be managed independently, as part of an autonomous network, or as part of an interoperable network, enabling luminaires to communicate with one another to provide dynamic profile dimming and advanced management schemes.

Combining state-of-the art LED lighting technology, the Shuffle provides a wide range of photometries – from intensive to extensive, symmetrical and asymmetrical, with or without a back light control system – adapted to almost any lighting application including streets, squares, ambiance, pedestrian crossings, architectural and signage.

This flexibility is possible thanks to the use of three types of photometric engines developed by Schréder – LensoFlex®2, reflectors and collimators – and multiple driving currents to meet the requirements of diverse applications.

The challenge for local authorities to offer safety and well-being to their citizens, while taking into account financial and environmental factors, is huge. Cities and managers of any and all spaces will have to become smarter when implementing the variety of new technology, while ensuring that these benefits are made available.

While the utility of the Shuffle significantly lowers the carbon footprint of what would have previously been several installations, the curved design also offers a more emotional benefit for those using it. Recent research, led by neuroscientist and psychologist Oshin Vartanian at the University of Toronto , found that a curved design appears less aggressive and tends to integrate better than using straight lines and clear angles. People looking at curved designs had significantly more activity in a brain area called the anterior cingulate cortex – which reflects emotional involvement – compared to people who were observing linear shapes.
