Nexans Millimat Underfloor Heating

Nexans is bringing affordable, Scandinavian-style electric under floor heating to the UK market with its Millimat heating mat.

Ideal for renovation projects or new builds, Millimat can be used in virtually any room in the house to provide comfortable, evenly distributed heat. It can be installed very quickly beneath a range of floor coverings, including wood, laminate, vinyl, tiles, slate, stone and marble. The mat comes with a thermostat which reacts immediately to any temperature change in the room, ensuring an efficient use of electricity.

Millimat consists of a thin twin conductor heating cable attached to a flexible, self-adhesive glass fibre net. With a width of 50cm and thickness of 4.5mm, the self-adhesive mat can be rolled out and cut to fit the room shape before being covered with tile adhesive, mortar, screed or concrete. Electric floor heating like Millimat doesn’t occupy any wall space, giving greater freedom and flexibility to decorate and furnish a room.

Nexans Millimat comes in two heat ratings – 100 W/m² and 150 W/m². The 100 W/m² mat is recommended for living rooms, hallways, kitchens and other similar areas. It can be installed on any type of sub floor that is levelled and stable. The 150 W/m² mat is designed for areas that require a higher heating output, for example bathrooms, toilets and laundry rooms. This version of the mat needs to be installed on and under non-combustible floor materials.

Millimat can be up to 40 per cent cheaper to install than a conventional radiator and gas boiler central heating system, and has the added advantage of being maintenance free.

With ‘traditional heating’ a convection current is created as cold air falls and the heated air rises, making it colder at foot level than at head level. Electrical floor heating maintains an even temperature distribution throughout the room. As a result it is possible to lower the room temperature and still keep a comfortable home, cutting heating costs.

Electrical under floor heating systems like Millimat are an ideal option for people looking to change their central heating to a more renewable energy source, for example solar or wind power, which all produce electricity.
