Cable Tie Risk for Food Manufacturing

Cable-tie manufacturer, HellermannTyton, is warning all those working in the food manufacturing industries of the potential danger of using the wrong type of cable tie. Despite a modern culture which is continually permeated with law suits and compensation claims, many food manufacturers are still leaving themselves liable to a major threat by using the wrong type of cable tie.

This is because, by using a standard cable tie they run the risk of a small ‘cut off’ section or even the whole tie contaminating the production process and leaving the factory area having been undetected in the product.

To mitigate this inherent risk for food manufacturers, HellermannTyton specially developed it’s phenomenally successfully range of metal content ties. Already used by most major names within the food processing industry, these ties incorporate a metallic pigment. This enables even the small ‘cut-off’ sections of the tie to be detected by metal detecting equipment. In addition, they are blue to aid visual detection.

Providing even more cable management options for contractors involved in these industries, HellermannTyton has now added four additional colour options colour choices to the metal content tie range - red, yellow, green and orange - available in the MCT50L model. These new colour variations have been designed to further aid visual detection and reduce the risk of contamination in larger scale production sites, which typically require easy distinction between different areas.

These are in addition to the full metal content tie range, available in blue. This incorporates the flagship MCT50L metal content tie (390mm x 4.6mm), MCT30R (150mm x 3.5mm), MCT50R (200mm x 4.6mm), MCT50L (390mmx4.6mm), MCT120R (380x7.6mm), and the more recently launched MCTRELK2M (250mmx4.6mm) releasable tie.

James Rice, HellermannTyton product manager for fastenings and fixings, said: “Amid mounting legislation, detection is ever-more paramount in food manufacturing and processing, where it is often a case of prevention is better than cure. This is why it is surprising that, although we already sell our metal content ties to hundreds of food processing companies worldwide, there are still a number of companies who are still using “standard” nylon cable ties and consequently leaving themselves exposed.”

“Having now extended the range with a launch of our new colour variants, which will be another excellent resource for those involved in the industry, I would urge anyone who isn’t already doing so to ensure they take advantage of the range. Only then can they ensure safety and, in turn, peace of mind.”

Ensuring the upmost in safety is achieved, HellermannTyton metal content ties can be used as part of the HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points) directive, which demands that effective food safety systems are established through the application of systematic approaches to hazard and risk analysis.
