Off-the-shelf customisation solution!
Suzanne Gill visited the Click Scolmore stand at the recent ELEX exhibition in Coventry, to find out what users want from their domestic wiring accessories today.
Looking for interesting new developments and trends in the wiring accessory market, the first question I asked the team at Click Scolmore was ‘exactly what are contractors looking for from their domestic wiring accessories?’ "Flexibility and ease of installation" was the immediate reply from Marie Parry, marketing manager. Many suppliers of wiring accessories offer a customisation service, but Click Scolmore has taken this one step further to offer its customers the ability to customise their own products, using a range of modular, off-the-shelf components, she explained to me.
The company’s MiniGrid and New Media range of modules and mounting plates offers users the ability to create their own customised switching or media solutions by utilising the wide range of modules and plate options available. The MiniGrid range has been recently extended to include 12 & 18 gang options to provide even more flexibility.
Both the MiniGrid and New Media ranges are also available for use with Click Scolmore’s recently launched Definity range which has evolved from its well known Define range of flat plate accessories, and includes all the same features but without the visible fixing screws. Definity incorporates screwless, push-fit cover plates in a choice of five finishes. The cover plates are supplied independently of the electrical inserts which means that the initial installation of the product can be carried out and any subsequent maintenance or decoration completed before the final selection and fixing of the cover plate. Individual designs can be created by utilising the various coloured switch rockers – which are available in all the plate colour finishes including black, and can be easily interchanged with contrasting cover places as the application dictates.
This gives much more flexibility to the installer and the distributor need not carry excessive levels of finished product. Also, should there be a subsequent interior design change or re-decoration a different colour accessory can be specified to complement the new scheme. Replacement plates can be sourced individually and fitted without the need for any special tools.
Marie showed me just how flexible the Definity, MiniGrid and New Media ranges can be. Users are able to make a selection from a huge variety of rear inserts – including modular switches, dimmer switches, toggle switches, 13A UK socket outlets, round pin socket outlets, lockable and standard fused connection units, 20A switches, 45A switches, cooker control units, telephone, data outlets, TV and media outlets. Any of these inserts can be placed together on a variety of cover plates. Essentially this offers the user a self-customisation service! It also offers a stylish and neat wiring solution.
All UK socket outlets and spurs are tested and approved under the BSI Kitemark Licence scheme. UK switches and sockets are available in both a standard moulded switch finish or an ‘ingot’ metallic finish, to complement the cover plate.
