SummitSkills crowns 2009 SkillELECTRIC champion

The electrical industry celebrated its finest talent last week at the UK finals of SkillELECTRIC 2009, a challenging two and a half day practical skills competition designed to promote standards and skills across the sector.

For the second year running, SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for building services engineering, hosted the SkillELECTRIC UK final at Interbuild at the NEC in Birmingham, offering visitors the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the live action.

At the SkillELECTRIC UK final, competitors are expected to demonstrate their problem solving skills and accuracy in a highly pressurised environment and under close scrutiny from the judges.

This year saw Chris Young, employed by Rogers Restorations in Somerset and trained by Bridgwater College, crowned the UK SkillELECTRIC champion. Chris, 20, competed against nine others from all over the UK, undertaking a series of demanding practical tests based on real life work situations including electrical wiring and jointing.
