Energy saving opportunities with Newlec occupancy detectorsLeading electrical wholesaler Newey & Eyre has expanded its range of energy saving solutions with the addition of Newlec professional passive infra-red (PIR) occupancy detectors. For those involved in facilities and energy management Newlec’s occupancy detectors provide a cost effective, simple and highly efficient way to manage energy consumption, particularly in retrofit installations.
Ideal for use in offices, schools, warehouses, corridors and stairways, Newlec’s new range of PIR occupancy detectors automatically operate the connected load such as indoor lighting or heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. When an area is occupied the system is turned on, then after a pre-set time of non-activation (when an area is vacated), the PIR is turned off to ensure that energy is not being used unnecessarily thus making an important contribution to energy saving.
The key benefit of Newlec occupancy detectors is that when used in conjunction with daylight regulation and light sources with high efficacy ratings, they can save up to 75 per cent of energy consumption. In addition, while a standard PIR only covers a basic walk zone detection area, the new Newlec professional occupancy detectors provide a high performance seven metre sitting and 10 metre walk zone activation area. The enhanced micro-detection and improved activation area reduces the number of units required in any given installation.
The new range includes a ceiling surface mounted detector, which fits into a standard pattress box for ease of installation and a pre-wired ceiling recessed product with an added terminal block allowing for two-channel switching (for lighting and HVAC for example). For a fully comprehensive solution there is also a ceiling flush mounted system, complete with infra-red remote control with two channels for additional load management, as well as a two-wire flush wall unit.
All products in the Newlec professional occupancy range (360° ceiling units) use dual element quad PIR sensors, combined with a micro-sensitive fresnel lens. They are also equipped with five to 1000 lux and time control in 10 steps ranging from 10 seconds to 40 minutes.
Gary Walker, category manager at Newey & Eyre comments: "With increased pressure on businesses to be energy efficient, it is important to look beyond the obvious solutions. The selection of easy to install Newlec PIR occupancy detectors, designed for different applications, provide a cost effective way for facilities and energy managers to take control of their energy usage and make serious cost savings."
