Greenbrook shaves £££s off tower blocks’ energy consumption

GreenBrook is helping to ensure that residents can keep themselves as smart as their newly smartened homes thanks to the 270 Polycarbonate shaverlights that the company has supplied for the refurbishment of the Riverside Dene housing estate in Newcastle.

Greenbrook shaves £££s off tower blocks’ energy consumption

The refurbishment project involves a complete facelift for three tower blocks as part of a wider regeneration programme for the social housing estate. The refurbishment includes a total upgrade of the towers, both internally and externally, including refurbishment of each individual apartment with new kitchens and bathrooms installed throughout.

Landlord, Your Homes Newcastle (YHN), has placed a clear emphasis on sustainability for the refurbishment and energy efficiency is one of the key requirements for the electrical installation. As a result, when electrical contractor, McVickers came to look for a shaverlight for the apartments’ new bathrooms, wholesaler, Park Electrical, guided the company towards the GreenBrook Electrical IP44 Polycarbonate Shaverlight range.

Explains Mark Armstrong from McVickers: "The aim of the refurbishment programme is to significantly improve the standard of accommodation at Riverside Dene whilst ensuring that the buildings become more sustainable. As a result we were looking for a high quality, low energy and functional product but, as this is a social housing scheme, we were working within a tight budget so required value for money too."

McVickers selected the GreenBrook IP44 Shaverlight with pull cord operated light and has a concealed shaver socket. The sleek, double-insulated polycarbonate body is stylish and unobtrusive and the unit is supplied with two 9W compact fluorescent lamps.

Craig Wolloms, area sales manager adds: "Products like this prove that aesthetics, quality and energy efficiency don’t have to come at a premium."
