Lighting at Leisure

Riegens Lighting has supplied a wide variety of luminaires, along with a specially designed track light system, for the new DW Sports Fitness centres that are opening throughout the UK. The overall specification of the project was to supply a good quality, highly efficient light source whilst adhering to DW’s strict energy saving ethos.

Lighting at Leisure

Working closely with building design consultants, Hannan Associates, Riegens designed and developed a unique track lighting system for the main gym area at each of the new locations. Comprising a central fluorescent module, which also acts as a power feed to each run of lighting, the fittings are bolted together with the power transferring through a single circuit track. The system has been designed for fast assembly, negating the need for any time-consuming wiring issues.

For locker room lighting, Riegen’s Ambit pelmet lighting has been installed to provide a shadow free performance. Designed with a simple plug and play system, Ambit includes overlapping lamps to ensure there are no visible dark spots on continuous run projects. The plug and play system allows easy fitting and, should layouts change during construction, the system can easily be altered without extra cost.

For the Tunstall, Stoke on Trent club, a dark staircase required good illumination and Riegens Concido pendant lighting was chosen to produce a light and airy feel. This luminaire allows the light to be directed to the actual staircase, whilst providing illumination for the walls and ceilings.

With a large proportion of the clubs using low voltage dichroic or metal halide light sources, an ordinary bulkhead fitting would have been far too obtrusive for emergency lights so Riegens devised a special edition of their Concido downlight. This resulted in a non-maintained emergency fitting connected with energy saving emergency packs.

Commenting on the DW installations, Karl Spencer, Senior Electrical Engineer of Hannan Associates stated "Riegens offers a great service and fast delivery time which suits our fit-out programme. They produce high quality products and are always available to assist us with special manufacturing needs to suit individual projects"

Formerly known as JJB Fitness Clubs, DW was awarded 'Best Health and Fitness Club of the Year 2008/09' and, with fifty three clubs already established throughout the UK, has just opened another 6 clubs in locations including Milton Keynes, Tunstall, Canterbury, Poole, Bangor and Carlisle.
