A soft solution for street light management

Mayrise Systems is a provider of service management systems for local authority. Working in partnership with local authority clients and contractors it is continually developing new technologies to increase the level of automation available to the market. Alongside its established back office systems, the company has developed mobile data capture solutions and XML web integration tools.

One of its offerings is an automated solution to managing highway street lighting, illuminated signs and other street furniture, that may or not be powered.

The software is used by local authority street lighting departments, contract engineers and electricians to manage the 'lighting stock', computer schedules electrical testing and other routine maintenance. It logs fault and coordinates the response to fix faults, creating job orders, job completion reports etc.

Lighting technicians can be equipped with mobile PDA devices to connect them with the central system. These devices incorporate electronic maps with lighting unit overlays' to enable technicians to easy pinpoint lighting units and complete reports in the field electronically.

The street lighting maintenance team at Gwynedd Council is using HP IPAQ pocket PCs, loaded with MAYRISE Street Lighting mobile software to identify and record faulty street lighting units.

The intelligent software includes a fully integrated mapping module, making it easier for council electricians undertaking night patrols to report back. The reports are then downloaded to the Council’s Mayrise server, generating a works order for the repair that is, in turn, uploaded to the pocket PC. The handheld devices also enable electricians responding to the problem to access detailed maintenance information and service history for the faulty unit.
