New metering from Hager meets new European standards
Hager has introduced direct connect Kwh meters that are among the first to meet the new European EN 50470-3 MID approval regulations. They are part of a new range being introduced by the company.
The approval is mandatory if you are going to use the meter for payment purposes, such as in multi-tenanted offices or retail centres.
To have the approval, an independent laboratory must check both the product characteristics and the manufacturing process. Each meter must also be calibrated and be issued with a specific manufacturing number and be delivered with sealing kits.
The direct connect meters have an accuracy of +/- 1 percent and include single phase with direct connection to a maximum current of 63A and three phase meters to a maximum current of 100A.
Other meters in the range include three phase meters with connection via current transformers and a three phase meter with a KNX output for use with bus based systems. Other than the KNX meter, the new range has a pulsed output and can be adapted to interface across all kinds of networks.
Each meter has a large backlit display for ease of reading. It can display both the active energy, which is required to make an installation operate and the instantaneous power consumption, which provides an energy view of the installation at that time.
Says Steve Dyson product manager for Hager; "Energy sub metering is becoming more important, not just as a requirement of the Building Regulations, but as organisations take active steps to manage their consumption. Accurate data is vital if you are to take targeted action and our range includes meters that are among the first to meet the new European standards."
