Luminaries provide even light at teaching facility
Riegens Blocks luminaires have been installed in the newly refurbished King Solomon Academy in Lisson Grove, London. Specified by Arup, the brief was to provide high quality, robust luminaires that would provide a good even light distribution.
The project included the refurbishment of the original Grade II listed building, formerly the North Westminster Community School and also the construction of two new, purpose built structures that have increased increase capacity to allow the Academy to accommodate 900 pupils aged between 3-18 years.
Riegens Blocks suspended luminaires have been utilised throughout the classrooms within the existing building and also for the classrooms/work places in the new build areas. Part of the project specification dictated that the luminaires had to blend into the original and unique 60’s architectural style of the old building, whilst blending well into the new build areas. Blocks, a luminaire offering direct and indirect light, was chosen for its clean straight lines and strong geometric design.
Incorporating RT5 optic technology to offer optimum light control, the luminaire was installed throughout the Academy in a mixture of twin and single units with 28W and 21W lamp options.
David Eames of Arup, said: "The Blocks luminaires were selected to blend in with the old building. An additional specification of the project dictated that the luminaires had to work harmoniously with the existing mullion structure and Riegens were able to help us and offer bespoke colour units to our exact RAL number to match the architect’s aesthetic scheme".
