Legrand solutions for assisted home living
Legrand has developed a two-pronged approach targeted at preserving an individual’s comfort and autonomy for longer than ever before.
The company aims to make homes safer and compensate individuals for a decline in self-sufficiency through the provision of a wide range of convenient, user-friendly and non-intrusive assisted living solutions, which include:
- Light paths that automatically illuminate dark spaces and walkways through the use of motion detection technology – a development that can dramatically reduce falls, which can account for 85% of life threatening accidents in homes
- Automated alarms and monitoring systems to ensure rapid assistance when required
- Centralised scenario based controls of lighting and temperature to ensure a more comfortable and safer home environment
- Access and door entry systems to allow secure access to family, friends, carers and other visitors.
- The inclusion of large switches, separated rockers and contrast frames in all wiring device ranges to aid ease of operation and visibility.
Alastair Ramsay, Legrand’s sustainable development manager, said: “The population is growing and ageing and, as a result, more and more people are living independently for longer in their later years. Therefore, it is imperative that there are products and systems available that ensure greater safety of movement around the house, reduce the need for repetitive everyday moves and actions, and facilitate communication with the outside world.”
“While we already deliver this through our many home system solutions, which cover everything from automatic switches to presence detection, door entry phones to remote control of blinds, we are not sitting on our laurels, but investing heavily in further enhancing our offering.”
Where possible, all of Legrand’s standard product solutions are designed so as not to discriminate against any form of disability, which helps to keep costs down by reducing the need to install specialised equipment to cater for people with a disability.
Legrand has a 19% share of the global wiring device market and a 15 per cent share of the cable management market. The company is the world specialist in products and systems for electrical installations and information networks.
