MK Electric lights up social housing
MK Electric, has compiled a comprehensive suite of products that suit the particular demands of the social housing market with a range of products including sockets, switches, wiring accessories, circuit protection, cable management, chimes and security. Each product combines safety and security with ease and speed of installation, and can be simply tailored to meet the requirements of Parts L and M of the Building Regulations concerning energy conservation and the less able.
Every item in the portfolio has the MK marks of quality and reliability - manufactured to ISO 9002 certification, backed with a comprehensive guarantee of up to 20 years, and factory-tested for safety delivering ‘fit and forget’ installations every time.
Innovation and safety are the cornerstones of the MK approach as exemplified in its super-safe range of sockets and its award-winning Echo switches. Safety is the top priority and MK sockets are among the safest available as they have a “child resistant shutter system” that stop the plug connecting to the electricity supply, unless all three of pins of a British plug are in position. The Echo range is wireless, batteryless and self-powered – so they are easy to fit anywhere and at any height to suit the user so comply with sections L and M. They are inherently safe because they are not directly connected to the mains supply and being self-powered cuts both running and maintenance costs – once fitted they should need no further attention.
MK Electric’s extensive range of wiring devices for social housing reduce life cycle costs through durable construction and robust design and include: Logic Plus, Grid Plus, Masterseal and Metalclad Plus sockets, sensors, white ceiling accessories – Shockguard Plus and low energy fittings – and heating controls.
The Logic Plus range offers an outstanding breadth – sockets, switches, connection units, shaver units, cooker switches, telephone, TV, FM and satellite outlets and flexible multimedia options. The MK Grid Plus range of modules includes switches, indicators, dimmers and TV outlets that are easy to fit and change, as they simply clip into place from the front of the mounting frame.
Developed for outdoor use, Metalclad Plus is made from heavy gauge steel, while Masterseal is the award winning IP56 rated range that protects against strong jets of water, dust and small particles.
MK Electric’s comprehensive range of ceiling and corner mounted, and long range sensors are quick to install and commission to gain lighting efficiencies, as are its range of low energy ceiling fittings. Shockguard Plus ‘safety’ lampholders automatically shields the contacts when the lamp is removed it, so preventing any risk of electrocution. To aid installation the MK Electric range of heating controls feature wiring knock-outs and trunking guides, plus large wiring terminals with captive washers.
MK has also designed Sentry Consumer Units that provide flexible solutions to meeting the requirements of the 17th Edition with regards to RCD protection for circuits, cables and socket outlets. These units, available in insulated and metal flush and skeleton versions, allow for protected and unprotected ways with the circuits being split across up to 3 RCDs, while a new labelling sheet allows for full identification of all circuits.
Other products in MK Electric’s broad range that lend themselves to social housing include cable management products including Prestige 3D dado trunking, Ega Cornice surface-mounted trunking and Ega Mini Trunking plus its Friedland range of door chimes, security sensors and security cameras.
All these ranges are outlined, together with a typical case study, in the new eight-page MK publication Social Housing Sector Products and are guaranteed for five, 10 or 20 years, depending on the product.
