Wire piercing TeePlug gets straight to the point…
Hylec-APL, has expanded its innovative range of Weatherproof plug and socket TeePlug connectors with a quick installation, wire piercing model.
The wire piercing TeePlug can be installed at any point along an electrical cable with no preparation or tools required and offers up to IP65 protection.
The waterproof TeePlug, available exclusively from Hylec-APL, has been designed to deliver well protected connections whilst keeping installation times to a minimum. Capable of providing Ingress Protection up to IP65, the wire Piercing TeePlug is ideal for outside application where many connections are needed to be made quickly, such as decorative lighting.
To make the connection the live and neutral wires are placed in grooves on the base of the TeePlug. The grooves have piercing spikes which are forced through the wire insulation as the top of the TeePlug is screwed into place; at the same time this creates an IP65 seal around the wires. As the wire doesn’t need to be stripped and no tools are required it is possible to make a number of connections along the same wire in a very short time.
Once the socket is connected to the wire the plug is fitted using a threaded locking nut to guarantee a secure, waterproof connection. The TeePlug is supplied with an attached protective cap which means that the socket is still IP65 protected when it is not connected to the plug. The connector is constructed from tough polyamide and can accommodate round wires up to 6mm diameter as standard. The design is flexible however, and for large projects using flat or festoon style cables, a modified socket can be manufactured to order subject to satisfactory evaluation and testing with the required cable.
