Ellis Patents invests to grow

Ellis Patents has invested £100,000 in two new pieces of machinery that will enable it to further expand the scope of its market leading business.

Ellis Patents invests to grow

The North Yorkshire-based cable cleat manufacturer has invested £45,000 in a manufacturing cell consisting of a decoiler, Hare Hydraulic press, welder and assembly machinery for its new FlexiStrap short circuit strap. In addition, £55,000 has been spent on a Kraus Maffei moulding machine to produce new pipe clips as part of a recently expanded exclusive supplier deal with one of the UK’s leading trade counter operators.

Richard Shaw, managing director of Ellis Patents commented: “Our intention at all times is to innovate and invest in order to grow the business and maintain our market leading edge. This latest investment enables us to secure a sizeable chunk of new business and fill a gap in our product offering, and what’s more both machines will have paid for themselves within six months.”

The new FlexiStrap is designed specifically for use with trefoil cable applications where the highest level of short circuit withstand is required. It is available in standard (SD) and heavy-duty (HD) variants for use with Ellis Patents Vulcan + and Emperor cleats respectively, and is manufactured in 316L stainless steel meaning it can withstand the harshest of conditions.

The strap has been short circuited tested in accordance with IEC61914 (2009) and can be installed quickly and easily using just a standard ratchet handle and spanner.

Meanwhile, the Kraus Maffei moulding machine will be used by the company’s plumbing products division to manufacture a new pipe clip for the leading trade counter operator. This new element of a deal, which already sees Ellis Patents supply everything from nail clips to heavy duty clips, side entry clips to double swivel clips, and pipe covers to pipe collars, is worth an estimated £250,000 per annum.
