Prysmian launches free guide to BS8519 cable selection

The aim of the guide is to help designers, regulators and installers of life safety and fire fighting systems in large and complex buildings, such as the Shard in London, identify the correct cables and accessories needed to comply with the new standard.

BS 8519:2010 came into force earlier this year and anyone with the job of specifying, inspecting or regulating fire resistant cabling for large or complex buildings should already be aware of it. However, it appears there has been some confusion within the industry when it comes to understanding which cables and components are suitable for specification.

It is important to note that there is no need to develop any new cables to conform to BS 8519. The entire Prysmian FP range, including FP200 Gold, FP400, FP Plus and FP600S, is already available to meet each of the performance categories for both power and control applications. These include smoke barriers, curtains and fans, fire fighting and evacuation lift supplies and sprinkler and wet riser pumps.
