Legrand on the grid at Silverstone

Legrand has ensured a place in British motor racing history by supplying its new Salamandre distribution trunking for use in the multi million pound Silverstone Wing at the home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone. Explains EMKA M.D. Andy Billingham: “A generally higher specification requirement is being demanded in the industry for common items such as quarter-turn locks for outdoor enclosures, also for rail and tunnel applications.

Nigel Leaver, lead marketing manager for Legrand’s cable management division, said: “This is the first project to use our new Salamandre trunking and it couldn’t be more apt - both in terms of the venue’s association with speed and how we secured the order.”

The new product, which was designed following a period of consultation with specifiers, installers and engineers, is faster and easier to install, has fewer components, reduces on-site man hours and offers improved health and safety.

Kevin Dunn, NG Bailey’s project manager, was impressed by the potential for cost savings the new system offered due to the reduction in the amount of time needed to install it.

He said: “Time on site is always precious and any new product that delivers time savings is always welcome, but a product that reduces installation time by 50 per cent really is something for Legrand to shout about. “

Meanwhile, NG Bailey’s site supervisor, Steve Povey, who helped with the initial installation of the trunking, said: “The new Salamandre trunking really impressed me. I liked the snap on lids and hexagonal head fixing screws, especially as they allowed me to use a nut driver to secure them rather than standard cross head driver.”

Legrand’s new Salamandre trunking features an array of innovative patent pending developments that enhance every aspect of the installation process – these include:
 A double folded safety edge on the return of the trunking, which is safer for handling and cables
 An external coupler that is wider and stronger than the current coupler, hides unsightly site cuts and ensures good earth continuity. And because it is supplied pre-fitted, the time savings are immediately apparent
 Slotted ends on all lengths allow the trunking to be slid into place and secured with the minimum of effort
 Multi-head shake proof screws that aid installation flexibility. The screws have a built-in serrated flange that bites into the steel to help earth continuity, are supplied assembled to all couplers and fittings, and are backed off ready to accept the next component meaning no more bags of screws to go missing. The base of the thread has also been redesigned with a dome to protect the cables once installed
 A rapid fit cover for speed of installation.
 Innovative push-fit, spring loaded / ¼ turn turnbuckles for fast, secure fitting and easy maintenance

Furthermore, the new range is fully compatible with the existing Salamandre system, and its popular marking jig measuring tool.
