Save money and reduce your carbon footprint
Businesses could save around £5,000 per year on their energy bills by switching from an older less efficient uninterruptible power supply to a new product on the market, according to its manufacturer.
Zigor (UK) claim that the new Ottawa Plus UPS achieves an efficiency rating of 90 per cent and can save companies money as well as reducing its carbon footprint. They say swapping an old 100kva UPS for a new 100kva UPS that is only five per cent more efficient, for example, results in a reduction in consumption of almost 46000 kw per annum.
Depending on an individual business’ power usage, at 10p/kWh running for 24 hours, 365 days per year this could become a saving of £4610.39 per year on energy bills. Gavin Banks, UK sales manager for Zigor, suggests if the improvement in efficiency is greater than five per cent the saving in both the utility consumption and cost could be even higher. The actual saving made, however, would depend on the efficiency rating and the capacity of the older UPS system that is being replaced. Mr Banks said: ‘Replacing an old UPS system with a new more efficient UPS needn't be a costly exercise. Replacing your UPS can actually save you money on your energy bill and pay for itself within three to four years.’
