Thorn Launches New High Ceiling Energy Efficient Lighting

Thorn Lighting announces the UK launch of Hi-Rack, a fluorescent energy efficient lighting range for high ceiling applications offering a viable alternative for high bay areas where less efficient discharge fittings have been the preferred choice until now.

Hi-Rack is particularly suited to storage, retail and industrial environments and offers a logical and cost-effective way to reduce energy costs and improve lighting quality. For open spaces or racking aisles not in continual use, Hi-Rack’s dimming/sensor capabilities can reduce lighting to as little as 10 per cent, which will reduce both energy consumption and energy bills.
Hi-Rack high frequency sensor (HFS) is the top-of-the-range version and ensures you only use light when needed. The sensor can be used up to 16 metre mounting heights and is quick and simple to install as it is factory set or can be programmed to specific needs using a handheld programmer from the floor.

Incorporated within the range are a number of features offering choice and flexibility, including high quality aluminium reflectors for racking or open areas, digital dimming and integral sensor possibilities, suspension kits and self-contained emergency lighting versions.
With multi-lamp optics, full dimming capabilities and improved lumen maintenance with age, Hi-Rack requires less maintenance and has a longer life than HID alternatives. This not only reduces direct lamp replacement costs but also indirect costs associated with maintenance planning, execution and system downtime. Moreover, unlike HID single point sources, if one lamp fails, the other lamps within the luminaire will still function, ensuring minimal impact on the task light.

Hi-Rack comes ready to install to minimise installation time and costs, with a curved body shape for easy handling, external access for wiring and lamps provided.
Darren Feasey, Product Manager at Thorn Lighting, says: “Businesses are under increasing pressure to demonstrate corporate social responsibility through energy-efficient initiatives. With rising energy costs, profit margins are being squeezed and businesses are recognising that installing energy efficient lighting is an easy and cost-effective way to reduce energy bills.

“Many companies who are looking to install Hi-Rack also find they qualify for financial assistance, such as an interest-free loan from The Carbon Trust or tax rebates from the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme, which makes energy efficient lighting even more accessible.

“The financial as well as environmental and operational benefits of installing Hi-Rack are clear. By reducing maintenance and energy costs for example, payback with Hi-Rack could be typically achieved in fewer than 18 months.

“Moreover, Hi-Rack can boost staff productivity through better light quality – a benefit which in its own right can make a real difference to the bottom line.”
Thorn Lighting has introduced Hi-Rack as part of its PEC programme, which is dedicated to providing luminaires that offer the best visual Performance, energy Efficiency and lighting Comfort
