Cannock Commandos raise over £5.5k for Royal Marines

Cannock based ide Systems raised £5,567 for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust this summer. Led by employee and former Marine, Matt Collins, the ide Systems team entered the annual Commando Challenge at Woodbury Common near Exeter - the Royal Marines Training Centre. The two-day event in May involved over 4000 entrants and included a 17km endurance run.

The charity, similar to Help for Heroes, was initially set-up to help Marines - particularly those suffering the long term effects of injuries sustained whilst in service. It also goes on to help former Marines unable to continue in their old roles retrain for new careers through training and mentoring support. It was established to rehabilitate returning Marines from Iraq but has been extended to include Afghanistan and to help the Marines' families. In all, £220,000 was raised at the event by all the teams who entered.

Matt led the 'Cannock Commandos' through muddy, tough conditions through to a successful finish for the whole team. "We feel we have done our bit for the brave boys in uniform and are very proud as a company at the amount we have raised" commented Matt.
