Varta introduces a complete range of mini heroes
Varta has become a fierce contender in the UK market with the introduction of a lithium-based battery range. The lithium-based battery offering completes the full range of power solutions, at various price points to suit every consumer pocket.

Powerful lithium
Available in 1.5 volt AA and AAA batteries and 9V blocks, the high energetic density within a lithium battery provides far greater capacity than conventional alkaline batteries. Compared to conventional alkaline batteries, lithium AA batteries last up to seven times longer while AAA batteries will last up to four times longer. The 9V block, with its incredible energy density, lasts up to five times longer and up to 40 per cent longer than comparable lithium products from a rival brand.
The lithium technology is appealing thanks to its long storage intervals (up to ten years), low self-discharging and its usability even in extreme temperature conditions. This type of battery is particularly well suited for applications with longer storage intervals or dormant times (e. g. smoke alarms), as well as for devices that consume a lot of current and have changing energy requirements (e.g. digital cameras and flash devices).
Tri-Energy via the alkaline range
Available in AAAA, AAA, AA, C, D, 9V, Varta’s alkaline and rechargeable products are known as Tri-Energy. To be launched in the UK this autumn, splits the range into three different levels of performance:
Yellow represents long-lasting power. Batteries in this range – such as the Varta LongLife Extra alkaline battery and Varta Longlife Accu rechargeable battery – are designed to prolong the lifespan of low current devices that need consistent energy over longer periods of time such as alarm clocks, baby monitors and remote controls.
Blue stands for powerful energy. Batteries in this range – such as the Varta High Energy alkaline battery and the Varta Power Accu rechargeable battery – are engineered to give maximum power to energy-hungry devices such as remote controlled cars and portable music players.
Red represents precise energy. Batteries in this range – including the Varta Max Tech alkaline battery and the Varta Professional Accu rechargeable battery – are specially formulated for hi-tech gadgets, increasing the speed of power flow between battery and device. This product is suitable for gadgets such as digital cameras, MP3 players and hand-held video games consoles.
The Tri-Energy offering is based on four key points of difference; improved performance, impactful packaging, clearer POS and promotional concepts. Across the complete alkaline range, performance has been improved by up to 10 per cent while device icons have been added to the revamped packaging to make selection quick and easy. The on-pack information has been simplified and the range concept illustrated by sporting icons – a long distance runner for the ‘yellow’ long lasting power, a shot-putter for the ‘blue’ powerful units and an archer for the ‘red’ precise category.
Powerful rechargeable solutions
Rechargeable batteries across the Professional the Ready2Use ranges provide a much lower self-discharge rate compared to conventional standard rechargeable batteries. A standard rechargeable battery loses about a third of its charge after having been stored at normal room temperature for one month; it loses three quarters of its charge after a year’s storage and must be recharged before it can be used. By contrast, Varta’s Ready2Use rechargeable batteries still have 75 per cent of their charge after having been stored for a year, and they still perform at 60 per cent of their capacity after two years of storage.
The low self-discharge rate of Ready2Use rechargeable batteries also makes them suitable for electronic devices with low current requirements and long running times (such as remote controls or wall clocks). Even if a digital camera is used only rarely, Ready2Use rechargeable power cells assure that sufficient energy reserves are always available.
Stylish charging stations
With a growing market of digital devices, Varta provides a customised product range for consumers who value power, mobility and speed.
In the Professional, premium range, Varta brings together powerful energy solutions. The V-Man Home Station is a unique universal home charging station, capable of charging up to four mobile devices plus two AA or AAA rechargeable batteries simultaneously. The V-Man Power Pack is the perfect mobile solution with the ability to charge a mobile phone, GPS (Sat Nav) or MP3 player anywhere, anytime. A fully charged V-Man will completely recharge a mobile phone twice or an MP3 player up to 10 times.

A full range of torches
Varta’s range of modern and easy-to-use torches and lanterns benefit from superior LEDs and an extended three year warranty. The clear on-pack information and simple segmentation (‘Easy’, ‘Power’ and ‘Professional’) mean that retailers and consumers can quickly and easily identify which product will best fit their needs.
The packaging now features a unique V-shaped blister pack using 50 per cent less polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and cardboard endorsed by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). As well as being more sustainable, this also allows retailers to stock more products on their shelves and maximise store space.
