DEWA wins Investors in People award
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won Investors in People Award – Gold Category after having successfully passed the evaluation process conducted by the Awards Evaluation Committee in the UK.
DEWA has been selected among six winners from outside the UK, and the first in the Middle East. This award is regarded as an international criterion, which relies on determining the level of distinguished participation of training and development through human resources with the purpose of achieving the objectives of business.
On this occasion, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA said: “DEWA adopts a strategy that invests in human resources so as to enhance employees’ productivity and promote their competitive capabilities. It also applies best world practices and the criteria of quality and excellence in performance and business. These practices and criteria promote the services delivered to all its customers and realises its vision as A Recognised World-Class Utility.
“DEWA has realised such a distinguished achievement after having successfully passed the evaluation process conducted by the Awards Evaluation Committee in the UK. Winning this award is the culmination of DEWA’s endless dedication and efforts in meeting all the requirements and submitting all the documents and evidence, which surpassed all the criteria required to obtain Gold Category Certificate,” His Excellency Saeed Al Tayer added.
“Investors In People criterion provides a practical framework for DEWA to improve performance and achieve objectives through the effective management and development of its human resources. If it hadn’t been for the endless efforts made by DEWA’s management and employees to support its march towards excellence, this achievement wouldn’t have become reality,” said His Excellency.
Dr. Youssef Al Akraf, VP –HR, added: “Investing in people is performed in accordance with our strategic plans, which develop and stimulate employees capabilities and efficiency. Training courses are provided to all employees with their different categories either internal or external, in-service training, e-education, opportunities for further studies either technical or administrative, making the best use of benchmarks and best practices, acquiring expertise through dealing with experts and specialists, as well as participating in specialist technical and administrative societies. Developing employees’ future career is undertaken once they join DEWA all through their service. Performance tracks are focused upon through examining personality and job competency, conducting regular, fair and transparent assessment by adopting best practices in this field.”
The award evaluation process is comprised of three stages; planning, implementation and reviewing. Planning stage comprises preparing strategies to improve performance, business strategy, learning and development, human resources management, leadership and management. The implementation stage includes performing procedures so as to improve performance. These procedures include effective management, appreciation, awards, participation and empowerment, learning and development. The reviewing stage is based on evaluating and improving performance, measuring performance and continuous improvement.
