Be compliant when maintenance-free

Hager has introduced a free Junction Box Guide, produced in response to Amendment 1 of the 17th Edition, which specifies what can be used for maintenance-free connections.

Hager has introduced a free Junction Box Guide, produced in response to Amendment 1 of the 17th Edition, which specifies what can be used for maintenance-free connections

Jane Yorke, Product Manager for Hager, commented: “Junction boxes are generally the easiest and fastest means of making connections when cable needs to be extended, however many people do not use the correct type of junction box for the installation and are therefore not compliant with BS7671. The biggest issue is generally accessibility for inspection and maintenance. If connections are made below a floor covered by carpet, laminate floor or tiles then they are effectively inaccessible and maintenance free connections must be used.”

Amendment 1 of the 17th Edition clarifies which products meet the specific requirements for electrical connections described in Regulation 526.3. This compliance is made visible by ruling that products are marked with the symbol ‘MF’.

The 16-page guide outlines the requirements of the regulations and how they affect cable connections and junction boxes. It goes onto recommend solutions depending on the application and concludes by outlining a product selection guide based on a decision tree. It also outlines Hager’s range of traditional junction boxes, its downlighters, and new maintenance free junction boxes.
