Are you compliant?
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) urges industry compliance as the amended Wiring Regulations came into force at the start of this year.
The IET has called for the electrical industry to ensure that it is compliant with The IET Wiring Regulations, 17th Edition, BS 7671:2008 incorporating Amendment No.1, 2011, from 1 January 2012.
The amended Wiring Regulations have been jointly published by the IET and the British Standards Institution (BSI) and set out the national standard to which all new electrical installations are to comply.
The 17th Edition, which was published in 2008, has been aligned with the European and International standards of CENELEC and IEC.
To support the industry in becoming compliant, the IET has published the On-Site Guide, which gives electricians a quick reference guide to the amended Wiring Regulations.
Geoff Cronshaw, Chief Electrical Engineer at the IET (pictured) said: “The IET is the authority on the requirements for electrical installations and the amended Wiring Regulations embody the standards that the electrical industry must now comply with. It is imperative that all designers and electrical installers familiarise themselves with the amended IET Wiring Regulations to ensure that the work they do is safe and of a consistently high standard.
