Focusing on renovation

Refurbishing a 200 year-old country house is no mean feat, least of all when it has to
be stripped back to bare walls and a supporting structure needs to be inserted.

Refurbishing a 200 year-old country house is no mean feat, least of all when it has to

Stanmore Hall, a Grade II listed building, is situated on the edge of the market town of Bridgnorth, and is near other historical towns such as Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Ludlow and Shrewsbury. It stands in Stanmore Country Park, also known as Stanmore Camp Countryside Site, which is a 100-acre country park located in Stanmore. The park was created in 1994 on the former site of RAF Bridgnorth and it is run by Shropshire County Council and contains an RAF memorial to those who were stationed at the military camp and lost their lives in service.

Bill and Patti Hillyard, the current owners of Stanmore Hall, fell in love with it despite the state of disrepair it had fallen into.

Bill, a retired IT consultant, had a vision for the 12-bedroomed Georgian mansion, but they knew that the electrical accessories would play an important part of this vision. He approached an electrical wholesaler in Bridgnorth who knew of only one company that would be able to help with the various special solutions that would be needed; Focus SB.

“We had to plan every room down to the finest, minute detail from the very outset,” explains Bill Hillyard. “Focus SB was recommended to us and the service we have received throughout could not have been better. Some of the finishes may have been challenging, but nothing has been too difficult for them to bespoke.”

All of the lighting control plates have been finished to match the various decors and the air sampling ducts have also been finished in bronze and matt black.

Following a meeting with Focus SB, Bill opted for the Dorchester range finished in everything from light bronze, pewter, antique silver, polished nickel matt black and white satin nickel.

“This is no ordinary house and so we didn’t want ordinary finishes,” he says. “The electrical accessories not only had to match the vision and design, but it was also required to integrate with the Lutron and Sensible Heating technologies. Focus SB has been able to deliver everything we asked of them.”
