Crowning glory
High street retailer River Island has chosen Megaman’s LED AR111 and Crown Silver lamps for it’s London headquarters.
The fashion company has over 60 years’ experience in the industry and more than 300 shops. It’s London office complex has recently gone through a re-development with the old warehouse areas being made into additional offices and existing office space being refurbished.
Retail lighting design company Prolight Design were asked to produce a lighting scheme to incorporate the triple head gimbal recessed downlighters that had already been chosen by River Island’s management team. With the delicate glass light fittings requiring a reflector type lamp, Prolight suggested using a mixture of Megaman’s 14W LED AR111 and 7W Crown Silver to provide optical control and light output without the heat generation.
Utilising a large reflector and a miniaturised burner, the AR111 LED has an anti-glare shield and glittering facetted mirror to achieve pinpoint accuracy from a 45° beam angle.
Furthermore, the lightweight heat sink ensures that track spots won't tilt. Offering a powerful beam of light equivalent to a 50W halogen lamp and instant start up, they are a true replacement for halogens in terms of colour temperature and intensity, but without the heat. The lamps, along with the aesthetically-designed luminaires, therefore provide a modern welcome throughout the reception, corridors, stairwells and office areas.
Megaman’s AR111 LED lamps use the company’s patented Thermal Conductive Highway (TCH) technology. TCH uses a unique design of 'heat drain' across the reflector to dissipate heat efficiently and prevent deterioration of the LED chip and other components. The technology also gives the lamps a longer life with high lumen maintenance, resulting in 85% of initial lumens being available even at the end of lamp life.
The AR111 LEDs are available in two versions; the GU10 15w which provides up to 30,000 hours life and a 14W G53 lamp base option which provides up to 40,000 hours. The latter can be used in conjunction with a dimmer switch, but a unique driver is required for the G53 version working with DC1-10V dimmer.
These LEDs offer a direct replacement for halogen spots in terms of both colour temperature and intensity whilst providing energy savings of up to 80%. Megaman’s LED Crown Silver, A60 shape lamps have a silver plated crown top with the rest of the lamp clear glass. The aesthetic design, high colour temperature and high colour rendering make it suitable for any decorative or mirror lighting as it provides a non-glare, in-direct controlled light.
Following installation of the Megaman lamps at River Island, Prolight have calculated an energy saving of 25,584kw, which equals 13,918 kg of CO2.
