A fast way to install power meters

Rayleigh Instruments has introduced a novel method of wiring and installing power meters and current transformers. 'EasyWire' is claimed to reduce substantially the time it takes to wire and install such systems, thanks to a design that allows plug-in connections to be used for both current and voltage input/output.

Rayleigh's EasyWire meters are provided with both input and output voltage connections, which allow up to 32 meters to be daisy-chained to a common supply voltage via the first meter.

There is a choice of five three-phase current transformer frames sizes, and a choice of two meter designs. All you need is an RJ45 lead to connect transformer and meter, and ready-made plug-in leads are used for voltage input.

The Rayleigh Instruments easy wire system has already established itself as the system of choice of several leading electrical control panel manufacturers.  The reason for this is simple: it can save substantial installation time and money compared with traditional wiring methods. Indeed, independent tests have proven labour savings of up to 90% are possible with Rayleigh's new EasyWire system.

These huge savings are made possible due to the innovative design of both the current transformers and the meters, which allow plug-in connectors to be used for both current and voltage input/output.

The five, 3-phase current transformer frame sizes are from 75mm to 215mm wide. These current transformers have in-built safety circuits, which automatically limit the output voltage to a safe level, allowing the transformer secondary to be left open circuit under load.

This means that the additional cost of installation of shorting terminals is not required.

The meters have in-built software which allows current transformer phase correction to reverse L1 and L3 when required.  The meters also incorporate a voltage output facility which allows the daisy chaining of up to 32 additional meters from a single power source, again saving considerable wiring and expenditure.

A 12-page brochure that fully describes the system capabilities, is available for order from the website (see panel). You can also follow the link on Rayleigh's website to watch the 'EasyWire 'Plug & Play' Current Transformers and Energy Meters' video.
