Watching over his sheep....
A farmer who has decided to install a high quality CCTV system in order to protect his award-winning flock of sheep has been supported in his decision.
The newest additions to his farmyard, 11 Valais Blacknose sheep, are thought to have cost Raymond Irvine over £55,000. Native only to Switzerland, Irvine had to pay for transportation and veterinary care as they were shipped to his farm in Moray, Scotland.The sheep are the only herd of their kind in the British Isles. Amongst them is a show-winning named King Kong
Due to their value, Irvine wanted to ensure his farm was sufficiently protected following his new arrivals. Without doing so would have increased the risk that the sheep may have been targeted and sold on the black market.
Irvine said he and his family ‘did a lot of research to pick the right stock, [as they] wanted the best to breed from’. After all their efforts, it is unsurprising that he has opted to implement a CCTV security system to prevent any unwanted incidents.
They have no plans to sell them immediately but are looking at a long term plan to enter the wool market. The characteristics of the sheep’s wool means there is a potentially lucrative opportunity for Irvine’s new business venture.
