Steinel boosts light output of its solar-powered, sensor-controlled outdoor light

Lighting expert, Steinel UK has increased the light output of its ultra-bright XSolar range of solar-powered external lights, now providing 150 lumens of light from a 1.2W LED.

The highly-successful XSolar range offers the latest in innovative outdoor lighting technology. A rotatable solar panel draws free, clean energy from the sun, which is stored in a lithium-ion battery (lithium ferrum phosphor). The rechargeable battery powers bright, white LED lighting, while the built-in PIR sensor ensures illumination only when it is needed.

Engineered for the highest efficiency – and now offering a greater light output than ever before – XSolar provides the opportunity to virtually remove the carbon footprint associated with external lighting.

Superior light output

Unlike many of its market competitors, XSolar can provide the powerful and efficient light output that’s needed for external lighting. Featuring 1.2W LED output, XSolar now achieves a lumen output of 150lms. The XSolar GL-S provides light for an area of up 20 m², while the XSolar L-S can illuminate up to 30 m².

The LEDs have a cool white colour temperature of 4000K, providing crisp illumination in the dark. In order to ensure the light is directed in exactly the right direction, the LED panel can be adjusted to +/- 60°.

Pole-mounted or wall-mounted

The pole-mounted XSolar GL-S is ideal for pathway lighting, with three different mounting heights possible. With a width and depth of 194 x 188mm, the XSolar GL-S can be specified to a height of 1178mm, 808mm or 628mm. Meanwhile, the XSolar L-S, which has dimensions of 189 x 298 x 186.5mm, is wall-mounted, providing numerous options for external illumination. Both stylish units are available in white or silver.

Solar power even in bad weather

With the XSolar range, there’s no need to pay for energy to power external lighting. Instead, simply draw energy from the sun. A highly-efficient monocrystalline solar panel with matted mineral glass is an integrated part of the unit. (The XSolar L-S also comes with a 6m extension cable, if you wish to mount the solar panel separately.)

The solar panel is rotatable by 330°, with a built-in compass that allows for perfect alignment of the solar panel to the south. This ensures the maximum amount of energy is captured from the sun. The panel even generates solar energy on cloudy days.

What’s more, each XSolar unit is able to store enough energy from the sun to continue powering the light even during dim stretches of winter. XSolar’s high-capacity lithium-ion (LiFePo) battery with 2.500 mAh provides light reserve for up to 60 days during bad weather. The battery has a 20-year lifespan and can operate in very cold or very hot temperatures (-30°C to +40°C), making it hardy enough for use in even the most extreme weather.

Highly robust for minimal maintenance

Using a passive infra-red (PIR) sensor with a detection angle of 140°, the XSolar lights only switch on when a person is detected nearby. The lights can be set to automatically dim down or switch off when they are not needed. The XSolar GL-S has a detection zone of up to 5m, while the XSolar L-S’s maximum detection reach is 8m.

The sensor technology at work in XSolar ensures optimal energy saving and extends the LEDs’ lifespan to minimise on-going maintenance. The units are also highly robust and weatherproof, rated IP 44 and Protection Class III. What’s more, all of the XSolar products come with a three-year warranty.

Peter Lawrence, Managing Director of Steinel (UK) Ltd, comments: “The popular image of solar-powered lights may be that they can only provide a weak spread of dim light – but this is where XSolar is different. For the first time, it’s possible to take advantage of the energy from the sun to power external lighting and achieve an ultra-bright light output of 150lms.”

He adds: “With high-quality components and proven light outputs backed up by rigorous testing, XSolar is a long-lasting solution quite different from its low-spec competitors.”
