Ultrasonic lighting sensors detect even the smallest of movements.

Steinel is the world’s only manufacturer in full command of three different technologies for motion and presence detectors: passive infrared, high-frequency, and now ultrasonic technology, which uses sound waves to detect even the smallest of movements.

By using sound waves that are inaudible to humans (at a frequency of 40 kHz), Steinel’s Control PRO ultrasonic sensors are able to permeate into every corner of the room. When a moving object is within the detection area, it changes the frequency of the sound and it is this change that the sensor interprets as movement. The ultrasonic waves envelop objects (such as computer monitors, desk screens or tables), as opposed to penetrating them, enabling very sensitive detection of movement. There’s also no fear of the sensor going through thin walls and switching on the lights next door needlessly.

Even the tiniest of movements is detected by Steinel’s ultrasonic sensors, instantly switching on the lights when needed. This means they are particularly well suited to open-plan offices, particularly ones where people are desk-based or make only minor movements while working. The sensor identifies any movement in the room, even if there is no line of sight between the sensor and the person.

Steinel’s range of ultrasonic sensors – all of which come with a 5-year warranty – includes products for 360° reach within offices and other large spaces; sensors suitable for short and long corridors; and products that combine ultrasonic technology with passive infrared technology.

The Control PRO US 360 sensor provides dynamic, all-round precision detection for indoor spaces. This means highly-sensitive 360° coverage across a 36 metres-squared presence zone.

For corridors, Steinel delivers the Control PRO Dual US and the Control PRO Single US. With its 20m detection reach, the Dual US can ‘see’ in both directions. In fact, it can even see around corners. This ultrasonic corridor sensor detects even the smallest of movements, no matter which direction it is approached from.

Steinel offers the same level of high sensitivity in its ultrasonic product for smaller corridors: the Single US provides 10m detection in one direction, using ultrasonic waves to create the same ‘foresight’ into the approach of people.

Ultrasonic technology combined with PIR

The Control PRO DualTech combines the best qualities of passive infrared and ultrasonic systems in one presence detector. This innovative 360° sensor, which covers a presence zone of 36 metres-squared, is for when the additional detection capability of PIR technology is desired.

Ultrasonic sensors are already extremely popular in the United States, and the UK can now benefit from high-end presence detectors that take advantage of the best of ultrasonic technology.
