Hawke Explosion Protected Glands
In hazardous areas there is no room for error which is why the Hawke range of explosion protected cable glands is an ideal choice for specifiers and users alike.
The majority of offshore installations use soft-bedded cable. If correct sealing techniques are not implemented, an impression is formed in the cable which then creates a void between the seal and cable.
This could potentially be the difference between life and death in the event of an explosion. Sealing on soft-bedded cable was a challenge for the designers. If a conventional compression/displacement seal is
used, which is activated by tightening the gland nuts and creates a force on the cable, the ‘cold flow’ process begins.
Hawke’s answer was a diaphragm seal causing no indentation and creating a gas tight seal on soft bedded cable. This is soft and flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of cable sizes, which requires no tightening of nuts to seal, is fast to assemble and can be inspected in situ without disturbing the armour
clamping or the seal.
