Fire Safety Courses for Electrical Engineers

Approved by the Institution of Fire Engineers, the new three-day training courses currently being offered by Siemens Building Technologies, Fire Safety, provide consultants and electrical engineers with a convenient opportunity to upgrade their expertise to include fire alarm and fire detection installations in line with BS5839: Part 1:2002.

The training courses are designed primarily for consultants, and also for project, design, commissioning and service engineers that have a good knowledge of electrical installations but not specifically of fire alarm systems.

They will enable those attending to comply with the Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA) policy, which requires that anyone involved with the design and implementation of automatic fire alarm systems that are intended for direct connection to a Fire Alarm Receiving Centre should hold an approved qualification confirming their competence.

The objectives of the courses are to provide delegates with awareness and understanding of BS5839 certification procedures, and their own responsibilities in relation to fire detection and protection installations.

The courses are presented by Don Scott from Siemens Fire Safety, who is acknowledged as one of the UK’s leading authorities on fire protection. Among the wide range of topics he covers are cable types; RFI and EMC; containment systems; design requirements; testing, documentation and certification; life and property protection requirements; zones; the RR(FS)O and other legislation; false alarm reduction and control; CFOA policies; and risk assessment.

Further details of these invaluable courses, including details of dates, locations, cost and the availability of places can be obtained from Sue Rowe on tel 01276 690466 and email sue.rowe@siemens.com. In order to provide maximum benefit for participants, the number of places is strictly limited, so those who may wish to attend are advised to register their interest as soon as possible.
