Prysmian’s Afumex LSX inspires confidence

Patients in East London and Essex are benefiting from new state-of-the-art medical facilities at Spire Roding and Spire Hartswood hospitals thanks to the provision of new specialist MRI units at both sites, powered by Prysmian's Afumex LSX cable.

The new MRI units provide spinal, neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiac and other MRI scanning procedures, playing a vital role in the diagnosis and monitoring of many different medical conditions.

Magnus Brown of building services consultancy, Leonard Engineering Design Associates, which handled the project explained the benefits of using Afumex LSX. "In buildings which serve a high volume of people it's important to use a high specification, safe and reliable cable. Particularly so when those cables are being used to power hospital lighting and medical equipment."

A screened wiring cable that is fully compliant with BS8436, Afumex LSX is one of the more simple and cost-effective solutions for meeting the requirements of the 17th edition for cables used in thin walls and partitions. Says Magnus, "Using Afumex LSX in place of armoured cable, we can save valuable installation time and money."

Afumex LSX is BASEC approved to BS8436 for 1.0mm² to 2.5mm² and is additionally tested for 600/1000 V rating. It combines a longitudinal aluminium tape screen in contact with a full size CPC (circuit protective conductor) to achieve the necessary earthable layer. It is also a 'Low Fire Hazard' cable making it suitable for general use in all building types and ideal for powering the modern facilities at Spire Hospitals.
