Megaman’s GU10 and Spiral energy saving lamps are being used for a variety of applications in the four-star Park Inn Hotel Hotel at London's Heathrow, part of The Rezidor Hotel Group.

Megaman Helps Park Inn Heathrow Hotel Maintain It's Green Credentials

The use of Megaman lamps has enabled the Park Inn to maintain its energy saving ethos whilst retaining the aesthetics of the interior decor.

The Rezidor Hotel Group is one of the fastest growing hotel companies in the world, offering a portfolio of great brands from high class comfort to high class luxury, serving destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Located just minutes from Heathrow Airport, the Park Inn Heathrow is the ideal choice for business travellers, conference delegates and leisure guests. The hotel's extensive facilities include 895 guest rooms, two conference centres totalling 45 meeting rooms, two bars and two restaurants and an indoor swimming pool, gym and jacuzzi.

After initial comparison trials of the Megaman lamps with other brands within specific areas of the hotel, it was agreed to change bedrooms over to Megaman lamps. Megaman’s 11W GU10 lamps have been incorporated in existing fittings in guest bedrooms to provide a longer lamp life and reduce maintenance time and conversion costs.

The GU10 lamps incorporate Megaman’s exclusive Ingenium® technology, which delivers breakthrough lighting performance and a superior operating life expectancy of 15,000 hours, combined with improved life cycle switching and a shorter preheating time. In addition, the integral cooling tube keeps operating temperatures to a minimum for enhanced safety. With an operating life some 7½ times longer than halogen and potential energy savings of up to 80%, lamps in the GU10 range produce an even light distribution and can be used in areas where heat and glare discomfort can be a problem.

Other products used in the Park Inn Heathrow Hotel include Megaman’s 11W Spiral and the IP64 Fozz Lighting Opera luminaire incorporating the company’s GU10 lamps, which have been used in the leisure areas and meeting rooms respectively. Bob Burns, Chief Engineer at Park Inn Heathrow, commented, "As part of it’s Responsible Business Programme, Park Inn Heathrow has undertaken a huge task to change all the light bulbs in the hotel – some 8,340 to date – to long life energy saving light bulbs. This project alone resulted in a reduction of 948.761 kwh electricity and a financial saving of £66,413.27 in 2009 and was a key factor in the hotel recently being awarded Gold status by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Before embarking on this project we looked at lots of options for energy saving light bulbs and the products offered by Megaman were definitely the best solution for the hotel."
