Schneider Electric awarded the Carbon Trust Standard

Author : J GALE

Schneider Electric has recently been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of their excellence in measuring, managing and reducing their carbon emissions.

The mark of excellence is awarded to organisations able to demonstrate genuine year-on-year carbon reductions. In order to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard, Schneider Electric had to prove its carbon emissions had reduced over three years. In addition, the company had to demonstrate it has effective carbon management procedures and processes in place which included showcasing the investments made in energy saving projects, as well as plans for the future.

Schneider Electric takes a thorough and proactive approach to its own energy management. The company has an ongoing programme which continually identifies areas for improvement, using energy audits and then implementing new projects in key areas. For example, the company recently installed a new intelligent energy efficient lighting scheme in its Leeds facilities to lower the carbon footprint. The building management systems were also modified at the Coventry, Telford, Scarborough and Potters Barr sites in order to make energy savings.

Being awarded the Carbon Trust Standard provides numerous benefits for both Schneider Electric and its customers. Firstly and most importantly it means the energy management specialists can set an excellent example to their customers by proving it follows its own advice, having successfully reduced carbon emissions. Furthermore with an increased stress on the importance of reducing carbon emissions in businesses, the award will help Schneider comply with current and future legislative requirements and any associated penalties resulting from not reducing carbon output. The Carbon Trust Standard is valid for two years when Schneider Electric will undertake the process again to keep the recognition.

Mark Jones, Energy Manager at Schneider Electric, commented: “We are extremely proud of our achievement at being awarded the Carbon Trust Standard. This reflects our commitment to energy management, which is not just something that we encourage our customers to do but something which we actively do ourselves.

“The Carbon Trust Standard testifies that not only have we reduced our carbon footprint year on year but also that we have the right management procedures and processes in place to continue to do this over a sustained period of time. This is a major priority for us and something which we will endeavour to improve even more in the future.”

Harry Morrison, General Manager, the Carbon Trust Standard, said: “We
congratulate Schneider Electrics on their certification. There is little doubt that the business leaders who have sound carbon management strategies in place stand to prosper both now and in the future. We are delighted to see Schneider Electrics joining a rapidly growing group of forward thinking organisations that have worked with us to calculate their carbon footprint, quantify their exposure to risk, and measure and benchmark progress of their carbon management strategies.”
