NICEIC and BESCA form alliance

NICEIC, the UK’s certification body for electrical contractors and renewable installers, and Building Engineering Services Competence Accreditation Ltd (BESCA), the independent national assessment and certification body, have announced a strategic alliance.

Wayne Terry

The alliance covers the provision of NICEIC’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for installers of renewable technologies to the membership of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) and brings MCS in line with the wider certification services already offered by BESCA to the HVCA.

“We are witnessing building services going through a metamorphosis driven by the growing demand for integrated renewables solutions and this alliance will ensure that BESCA will be able to deliver to its customers a one-stop shop for certification”, says Bruce Kirton, BESCA’s Chief Executive. “This alliance ensures consistency of the certification services offered by BESCA, which will ultimately benefit all HVCA members by reducing the burden of inspection that is an inevitable part of being able to demonstrate compliance”, explains Wayne Terry, NICEIC’s Head of Energy and Environment. MCS was developed to provide consumers with an assurance that microgeneration products and installation companies meet a robust set of standards. The MCS is also linked to financial incentives such as Feed in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive. The financial incentives and opportunity of benefits to business has seen the number of contractors moving into renewable technologies grow rapidly.
