New downhole pigtails on Amphenol KTK connector range

Amphenol Industrial say that they have enhanced their KTK connector range by introducing downhole microD pigtails.

The new pigtails, which are manufactured to customer’s specifications, eliminate the costly and tedious task of wiring and soldering KTK’s to microDs – giving both time and cost savings.

KTK high pressure connectors feature a bi-directional psi of 20,000, are ideal for oil and gas downhole tools and offer a high pressure and high temperature sealed connection standard in the downhole industry.

KTK connectors are ideal for the roughest applications they are low maintenance, extremely accuracy and dependable while remaining flexible and limiting the risks associated with in-hole loss. They are fully compatible with Kintec and GE Tensor layouts and are perfect for use in MWD (measurement while drilling) systems, LWD (logging while drilling) tools and downhole batteries. To extend the component’s life and prolong mating cycles, they are designed with gold contacts, a Viton O-ring and solder pot connections.

Durable and consistent connectors that can tolerate unforgiving conditions are essential in oil and gas drilling as assemblies provide service companies with crucial information, including the type and severity of downhole vibration, drillstring rotational speed and smoothness, downhole temperature and drill bit torque.

Amphenol’s KTK downhole connector range uses machined glass-filled epoxy, a strong thermoplastic that retains its mechanical properties in extremely high temperatures. The connectors are available in two versions; a medium temperature version which withstands temperatures to 170°C and a high temperature one that withstands up to 200°C.
