Acute wiring project

Prysmian’s FP Plus cables, with enhanced Insudite insulation, have been used exclusively for the fire system installed in the New Acute Hospital in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The hospital is scheduled to be completed in June 2012 and will provide 312 patient beds.

The £276 million project is a major investment in Northern Ireland improving the level of health care services for the Western Health and Social Care Trust and its near 300,000 population.

Since the project began in 2009, approximately 100,000 metres of cabling has been installed by Dowds Electrical contractors, connecting the extensive fire alarm system and other life safety systems such as Smoke Fire Dampers throughout the building.

Contracts Manager Nigel Connolly of Dowds Group M&E Services comments: “We specified Prysmian cables because they meet all current safety requirements whilst also being cost effective. In fact, Prysmian’s FP Plus cables actually exceed the current regulations specified for projects in Northern Ireland. We also had to ensure that the work could be carried out as quickly and economically as possible and to the highest standard, as we had stringent time schedules to work to. With FP Plus being fast to install, it fulfilled these needs well. Overall we are delighted with how the job has gone.”

Prysmian’s FP Plus with enhanced Insudite insulation provides a combination of rigidity and flexibility that is already well established with the FP200 Gold cable. This feature results in an easy installation for an enhanced cable whilst maintaining full compliance with test requirements and UK standards which includes both BASEC and LPCB approval.

FP Plus is approved for fire detection and fire alarm signal paths to BS5839-1:2002+A2:2008 and voice alarm systems to BS5839-8:2008 in enhanced application areas and emergency lighting systems to BS5266-1:2005. It uses an enhanced variant of the Insudite damage resistant insulation system with a hard skin and fire resistant insulation. Insudite surpasses soft skin silicone cables to provide a highly durable and damage resistant insulation.
