Time is running out for entries to a new award to recognise the achievements of women working in the built environment, and SummitSkills is urging building services engineering employers not to miss this opportunity to celebrate the work of their staff.

Time is running out for entries to a new award to recognise the achievements of women working in the built environment

The ‘First Woman in the Built Environment’ category is a new addition for 2012 to the First Women Awards, now in their eighth year. These awards were created by Real Business in partnership with the CBI. They celebrate the outstanding and pioneering work of women including engineers and project managers, and this newest category is aimed particularly at those working in a historically male environment.

SummitSkills is the sector skills council for building services engineering, incorporating the electrotechnical, heating and ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration and plumbing industries.

Keith Marshall OBE, Chief Executive of SummitSkills, said: “Our sector needs to celebrate the success of all of its skilled operatives, so we are happy to support this new award opportunity for women working in building services engineering. We are urging employers to identify their most talented female staff and put them forward for this award, so we can show the quality of work taking place every day around the UK.”

The closing date for entries is 13 April and nomination forms can be downloaded at: www.fwa.realbusiness.co.uk/nominations.

Winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner on 28 June at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
