Six solar PV successes

Building supplies company Gibbs & Dandy has helped Multicraft Electrical Services secure six lucrative solar PV contracts, delivering home energy micro-generation.

Building supplies company Gibbs & Dandy has helped Multicraft Electrical Services secure six lucrative solar PV contracts, delivering home energy micro-generation

The Bedford based electrical manufacturer and wholesaler has installed photovoltaic panels on six homes in the local area, enabling them to sustainably produce electricity, whilst benefiting from the government’s feed-in tariffs.

Using its supplier network and growing experience within the renewables industry, Gibbs & Dandy were able to source solar PV products for all six installations, supplying them on time and within budget.

In addition to sourcing the complete solar PV kits from Saint Gobain Solar, which include modules, mounting brackets, G83 compliant inverter, AC and DC isolators, single phase in-line kWh metre, cables and adapters, the builders’ merchant also helped advise on solutions for the varying project demands, through its in-store renewables experts.

To allow the homeowners to fully benefit from the government’s feed-in tariffs, Multicraft Electrical Services, also had to ensure they were MCS qualified. The trade professionals achieved their qualifications through the Greenworks Academy, a shared initiative from Gibbs & Dandy and its sister brands.

Gareth Hughes, Director of Renewable Energy for Multicraft Electrical Services, said: “Home energy micro-generation, and solar PV in particular, is really growing in popularity throughout Bedford, and we’ve noticed a considerable increase in requests for quotes. The feed-in tariffs, as they stand, are still a massive incentive but combined with rising energy prices and heightened awareness of environmental factors, solar PV is a real growth market.

“We were keen to diversify our business offering into this field, and the training and support we received from Gibbs & Dandy and its Greenworks Training Academy enabled us to expand as a business and benefit from some profitable projects.

“Gibbs & Dandy has provided product and support throughout the training, specification and installation process, which is vital when working with new or unfamiliar technologies. This has enabled us to capitalise on this emerging trend and meet customer demand.”

Rob Slater, renewables champion for Gibbs & Dandy in Bedford added: “We’re really pleased to have worked with a customer who is keen to expand its business offering and genuinely appreciates the benefits of solar PV technology. Our MCS training courses are specifically designed for companies, like Multicraft Services, who want to grow new areas of the business and benefits from Government schemes, like the feed-in tariffs and upcoming Green Deal, but are unsure of the skills and issues involved.

“Plus, with our extensive sustainable product range we can advise and supply for almost any specification, which is a great boost for installers looking to win more work in this area. This is our largest success to date and we look forward to helping more businesses expand into sustainable technologies.”
