Unistrut launches new cable trunking range

Fast, safe installation and a huge choice of sizes and fittings are offered with a new range of galvanised cable trunking introduced by Unistrut

Fast, safe installation and a huge choice of sizes and fittings are offered with a new range of galvanised cable trunking introduced by Unistrut for installation in ceilings, on walls or in floor cavities. It complements the established ranges of cable tray, ladder and basket already offered by the Midlands-based company.

The new trunking range extends from 50 x 50mm to 300 x 300mm in 17 sizes, and also includes a lighting trunking range. One, two and three segregated compartment options are available and there are more than 2,000 associated fittings including angles, bends, tees, crossovers, offsets, reducers, bell mouths, pin rails, cable retainers, socket plates, stirrup hangers, girder clamps and other fixings.

A special feature of the design is the positive lid fixing device – a quarter-turn on the turnbuckle locks a cam under the return edge of the trunking with a definite click to assure the installer that the lid is secured. Successive lengths of trunking are coupled easily and securely thanks to the special angled slot for the fixing bolts and short coupling sleeves, which fit inside the channel.

The trunking is roll-formed galvanised steel and is supplied in 3m lengths as standard although shorter lengths can be supplied to special order.

A complementary range of lighting trunking is also available incorporating a clip-fit plastic lid or optional clip-fit galvanised steel lid.

Unistrut, has invested over £1 million in its West Bromwich factory and is expanding its UK activities in the cable management sector. The production capacity of its roll forming plant has been increased by nearly 70% and manufacture of cable tray and cable ladder, which was carried out in parallel operations in the UK and France, has been consolidated on the West Bromwich factory.

Unistrut can offer a total service with installation design, supply and post-production service, using its own in-house engineering staff and software.

In addition to the UK investment, the company has recently invested $10 million in a new factory in China to produce components for its metal framing and cable management ranges. In this way it is able to manufacture the whole system in-house, down to the smallest fixing bolts. Consequently it has the confidence to offer a ten-year warrantee on its systems (subject to terms and conditions).

Unistrut, is an Atkore International company. It was founded in the 1920s to produce the Unistrut metal framing systems for which it is world-famous. These are used in building and construction to support mechanical and electrical services. The Company subsequently developed and extended its activities into the allied field of cable management, in which it is also a major player.

"Cable trunking fills an important gap in our cable management range, which already includes cable tray, cable ladder and cable basket" says Paul Pryor, Unistrut’s Marketing Director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "With the special features of this range, and the increased manufacturing capacity for all our products, we are all set to increase our share in the cable management market at home and abroad."
